Learn examples in free time.Ā Get used to the fingering and picking.
Select a handful of related examples and turn them into a practice routine. Firstly, free time for each example. Then, figure out your top comfortable speed with a metronome. Practice at your comfortable speed for form and repetition, then go above it to test your speed. Try 5, 10, 15bpm more than your comfortable speed, then come back down to make any corrections before trying again.
Avoid useless repetition. Move through speeds promptly to find your optimum current tempo; that, and above it is where to focus to make gains. Moving up a few bpm when you can already do much better is wasting your time. Test first and then figure out where you should be spending your practice time.
Cycle and evolve.Ā Next, cycle exercises. Drop the first few and add a few more. Your practice routine is like a workout - constantly updated according to your ability.Ā
Progress, not Perfection. Your aim is to be better at each skill, not be a boss at Example 2e. Keep it moving. Don't wait till one example is perfect and the same speed as me before you grab another.
